It Seems That Volkswagen Has a Mini-Golf on the Way, According to Reports from Germany

The original Volkswagen Golf earned its reputation as a compact, practical and affordable car. Over successive generations, however, the Golf has grown in size, sophistication and price.

A report from Germany suggested that Volkswagen was considering a smaller companion to the Golf, described as a “Golf Light.” The idea raises an obvious question: would a compact Golf-inspired model make sense when the successful Volkswagen Polo already occupies the class below it?

A return to the original Golf formula

The earliest Golf generations were especially appealing because they combined manageable dimensions with affordable ownership and everyday practicality. A new mini-Golf could revive that formula for drivers who do not need a car measuring roughly 4.4 metres or offering around 400 litres of luggage capacity.

Volkswagen had not officially confirmed the proposed model. To avoid competing directly with the Polo, it would likely need to be substantially smaller and could effectively serve as a successor to the Volkswagen up!, while adopting styling inspired by the Golf.

Two possible approaches

Volkswagen could position such a model as a premium city car with modern technology and higher-quality equipment. Alternatively, it could emphasize affordability by providing only essential features and avoiding expensive displays, luxury materials and unnecessary equipment.

The simpler approach would align more closely with the original concept: a lightweight, economical and recognizable urban car offered at an accessible price. Whether Volkswagen intended to put the rumored mini-Golf into production remained uncertain.
